Penny’s Founder

Brendan Fay

With over 20 years of experience in raising and deploying capital across the capital stack, Brendan Fay has established himself as a seasoned expert in the financial industry. His journey began at Bank of America, where he underwrote over $2 billion of commercial mortgage-backed securities.

Brendan then moved to Milstein Brothers Capital Partners, where he played a crucial role in entitling and developing real estate in New York City. His career further flourished at Marathon Asset Management, a $22 billion asset manager. There, he invested in opportunistic real estate investments internationally, ranging from condos in Brazil to land in Japan, and managed condos in Miami.

During the Great Financial Crisis, Brendan took a mini-retirement in Argentina before attending Columbia Business School, where he focused on corporate finance and real estate. Post-business school, he became the head of special situations at Doral Bank in Puerto Rico. He successfully restructured, refinanced, or foreclosed on over $1 billion of non-performing loans, eventually selling the portfolio to a large private equity firm.

Following his time at Doral, Brendan spent eight years at Campus Apartments, building out the private equity investment arm. He oversaw various functions including asset management, acquisition/disposition due diligence, capital markets, portfolio management, investor relations, and compliance. Brendan raised and deployed two private equity vehicles, secured over $1 billion of debt capital, and established a fund administration function from scratch.

In 2022, Brendan founded Penny Capital to provide niche industries with access to institutional capital. Throughout his career, he has sought out special situations requiring unique thought and decisive execution.
